Fluorescent Lamp Recycling

The Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with Martin County Solid Waste funds and Prairieland Compost Facility are sponsoring a Fluorescent Lamp Recycling pickup on Thursday, May 8th for any business or resident in Martin County. The collection will be held in the northeast corner of the Kmart parking lot from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

There is a charge per lamp and ballast. Charges must be paid to the recycler at the time of disposal. Your checks should be made payable to Retrofit Recycling, Inc. For specific information, please call Billeye Rabbe, Prairieland Solid Waste Coordinator at 507-238-3115 or the Chamber office at 507-235-5547.

Fluorescent lamps contain mercury and are considered a hazardous waste product. Do not tape the lamps together. Also, when transporting the lamps, be careful not to break them. Broken lamps should be double bagged and handled with special care to prevent additional breakage. Ballast containing PCB’s will also be accepted with a charge per pound.

Fairmont Public Utilities customers are eligible for total reimbursement for bulb recycling costs. When dropping bulbs off for recycling ask for a rebate coupon, keep your receipt, and turn both in to Fairmont Public Utilities for reimbursement of recycling costs.
