The 2008 Interlaken Heritage Days Summer Fun Festival will be bigger then ever. This year’s festival is June 14th. The Borderline Cruisers Classic Car Show, held on Downtown Plaza begins in the morning and lasts throughout the afternoon. There will be children’s games, a kid’s tractor pull, boat rides, karaoke, great food, beer garden, street dance, and much, much more in Sylvania Park! A variety of foods will be served by area organizations throughout the day. One of southern Minnesota’s finest parades starts at 6:30 p.m. with over 100 units marching through the downtown area. Come early and enjoy the pre-parade pork patty feed and karaoke. The festival wraps up with a street dance beginning at 8:00 p.m. There is something for everyone! Spectacular Fireworks
July 4th
Plan to attend one of greater Minnesota’s largest fireworks displays. Fairmont’s spectacular fireworks are held over Sisseton Lake. Originating at Heritage Acres, the displays begin at dark and can be watched from Ward and Sylvania Parks. More people attend the spectacular fireworks displays on the 4th of July than any other single event throughout the year. Prior to the fireworks take in the 29th Annual Blue Grass Festival at Heritage Acres from 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. In the past there have been bands from throughout the USA and Canada and each year brings different bands. There are many other activities taking place. Stop at Heritage Acres and see the Old Main Street and many antique displays.

Welcome Summer Festival

The Welcome Summer Festival is a three day festival with much to for everyone. In 2008 the festival will run from Friday, July 18th to Sunday July 20th. The festival starts every year with the Welcome Firemen’s Relief Association Chicken Feed followed by a street dance on Main Street on Friday night. Saturday will be full of entertainment from city wide garage sales to bake sales, pie and ice cream socials and reminiscing at the Welcome Historical Society. Also during the day on Saturday you can enjoy a slow pitch softball tournament, flea market and the parade. In the evening on Saturday the Welcome Legion will be serving Pork Chops at the Welcome Legion and there will be a street dance to follow. Sunday is the last day of the festival and features a community worship and the end of the slow pitch softball tournament. Be sure to look for the Summer Festival Medallion clues which are posted thru the weekend.

Santa, direct from the North Pole, will be arriving at the Fairmont Airport on the North Pole Express at 4:05 p.m., Friday, November 21st. Everyone is invited to meet and greet this special arrival. Photo opportunities will be available so remember to bring your camera. Join us on Friday, November 21st for the Glows Parade and pre-parade activities. A food vendor will be serving in Citizens Park on Downtown Plaza from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The First Congregational Church, 319 Downtown Plaza, will be serving soup and hot sandwiches from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1200 North North Avenue, will be serving Chili and Oyster Stew from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The Parade of Lights begins at 6:00 p.m. Come and see the wonderful floats, thousands of lights, appearance of Santa and more. This is an event for all ages! After the parade enjoy the post-parade activities at the Five Lakes Centre with Santa, Jack Schultze Orchestra, and refreshments.
