The minutes of the Fairmont City Council special meeting held on December 3, 2007, in the City Hall Council Chambers Mayor Quiring called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M. Councilmembers Anderson, Clerc, Gorath, Kallemeyn and Lucas were present. It was determined a quorum was present. Also in attendance were City Administrator Zarling, Asst. City Administrator Humpal, City Attorney Bloomquist, Police Chief Brolsma, and City Clerk Olson. Mayor Quiring opened the Truth-in-Taxation public hearing. City Administrator Zarling presented the 2008 Proposed Budgets for the City and Public Utilities Commission. Fairmont citizens Charles Raforth of 1027 Sioux Avenue and Duane Roloff of 125 Lake Park Place were present to ask questions and express their views concerning the proposed budget. After all present were heard, Councilmember Clerc addressed his fellow Councilmembers concerning his concerns about the proposed budget and recommended amendments that would lower the proposed taxes until the new businesses currently under construction would be operational and part of the tax roles. There being no further discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Lucas, seconded by Councilmember Anderson and carried to close the public hearing. Resolutions adopting the proposed budget will be presented for approval at the next City Council meeting on Monday, December 10, 2007.
