Kick Butts Day – To Do List

If you want this to be a huge successful event and to reflect the youth council in a positive light – we need everyone’s help to make this day a SUCCESS!!!!!!!

Numbers Campaign

Estimated time – 1 month for planning   1 week for media coverage   1 day for event

This is a list of the items that Ohio students did to get people to realize just how deadly tobacco is

What is the message that we want to get out? – Every day X people die in Minnesota of tobacco caused diseases and illnesses?

The main question with each of this points – is are we going to do it – who is going to do what – and a deadline for each one

□ Permission from the school to hold event – explain what we all would like to do

□ Permission from ALL faculty to write ‘X MN on their boards, taking up approximately 25 % of the board

□ Cups on the fence?

□ Stickers handed out with X MN printed on them?

□ Table with free stuff for students during lunch period - posters, pens, brochures, stickers, and anti-tobacco messages in fortune cookies

□ X shirts with RIP – X on the back and tobacco statistic on the front

Who is going to wear the shirts?

□ Last period of the day announcement – who is going to write announcement and who is going to make announcement?

□ End of the day fliers handed out to students or placed in students lockers or something with tobacco statistics and information from the end of the day announcement.

Other ideas????

Bulletin Board

Estimated time – 1 month planning plus time setting up the board

What is the message that we want to get out? – Every day X people die in Minnesota of tobacco caused diseases and illnesses?

The main question with each of this points – is are we going to do it – who is going to do what – and a deadline for each one

□ Permission from the school to have bulletin board

What bulletin board?

What to put on the bulletin board? Some ideas – tobacco statistics, pictures of tobacco ads with information written next to them/about each one – pictures/items/empty containers of chemicals that are in tobacco products, etc?

□ Catchy title?

Maybe point out that many of the products have a distinct warning that advises emergency assistance if the product somehow enters the body! Isn’t it odd that these poisonous ingredients are inhaled by smokers and those exposed to secondhand smoke?

Maybe refer students to the bulletin board in the end of the day announcements too!

Other ideas????

Tobacco Advertisement Skits

Estimated time – 1 month planning , plus presentation time

What is the message that we want to get out? – Smoking is not cool!!!!

□ Permission from the school to host skits – otherwise – we could see if Stepping Stones Day care Center is interested in having us speak to some of their students after school?

What classes and what times?

Who is going to conduct skits?

What ages are the kids that we will be presenting too?

□What type of skit are you going to perform? Get magazine ads and state that tobacco companied want you to think that it is cool and glamorous if you smoke. Maybe get pictures of healthy lungs – smoker’s lungs, etc

Other ideas???
