Fairmont Area Youth Council

Minutes from May 1, 2006 Meeting

 

  1. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. in the Fairmont City Hall Council Chambers
  2. Absent – Jon, Ashlee, Ryan, Amber (Concert), Chelsey (Concert), Ricky (Concert) Abbey (Track)
  3. Minutes from the April 18th meeting were passed
  4. Old Business
    1. May/Appreciation Baskets for 3 local Police Departments

-          Council will make these after the meeting and deliver

    1. Service Projects

-          City Clean Up

1.         Council members will be sent flyers to post around Fairmont.

    1. Brainstorming session

-          Service projects the council could be involved in

1.         Play bingo @ Lakeview Retirement Home

2.       Car Wash – donate $ to Humane Society

3.      Rake lawns in the fall

4.       Meals on wheels

5.      Fruit cake follies

-          Other Projects

1.         Back to School dance – September

2.       Kick Butts Day

3.      Work with the Library and read to younger youth

a.       Betsy will mail a packet to everyone regarding website and activity ideas that other youth groups have sponsored.

 

-          Aquatic Park Teen Night – we will discuss this more at the next meeting on how the council can become involved and get the word out.

    1. Officer Positions

-          Council will need a secretary and vice-president for next term

-          Jesse proposed the council have a school representative from the schools that are on the youth council

1.         The school rep would speak on upcoming events and issues youth face at that school

2.       Tabled officer elections until next meeting

  1. Other Business
    1. Savannah and Nathan attended the Teen Court Service Project at the Humane Society on April 22. They reported it went well and was lots of fun.
    2. City Council Meeting Schedule

-          April 24 @ 5:30 p.m.: Jesse reported on the topics of discussion at this meeting. They stated the major topic of discussion that evening dealt with the effects of the major rainfall/rain damage in certain areas of the community.

-          May 8 @ 5:30 p.m.: Nathan unable to attend this meeting. Someone needs to fill in for him…

-          May 22 @ 5:30 p.m.: Savanna

    1. Next Meeting Date: May 16, 2006

-          As this will be the last meeting for Jon and Justa, they are deciding what to do for this meeting and what time to meet. They will let Betsy know their intentions by Friday, May 5.

-          Council will discuss tabled topics at next meeting and decide on summer meeting schedule.

    1. Council assembled 3 May baskets and delivered one to the Fairmont Police Dept. Chelsey and Amber will deliver the other two baskets to the Sherburn and Welcome Police Depts. (?)
