Fairmont Area Youth Council

Minutes from September 9, 2008 Meeting

 

  1. The meeting was called to order at 6:38 p.m. at the Fairmont City Hall Council Chambers

     

  1. Councilmember Sanden, Johnson, Goraczkowski, Brooks, Grieschar, and Davison were present (Councilmember Shelton was absent)          

 

  1. Council approved minutes from the September 2, 2008 meeting

 

  1. Open Discussion

 

    1. Betsy encouraged councilmembers to participate in the upcoming Mini Youth Summit on Sept 17 from 1-5 p.m. at the Christian Church in Fairmont. Interested individuals should contact Jenny Schweiger.

 

  1. Old Business

            a.   November 7th dance from 8-11:30 p.m. @ KC Hall    DJ: Stage 1 Sound

-     Council voted to table deciding on a snack or two until our next meeting

-     Styles will contact Wal-mart regarding donations for water/pop/snacks/a door prize

-     Council approved the posters Betsy created for the dance

 

6.      New Business

    1. Red Ribbon Week

-          Council voted to address FHS students with a daily announcement (Casey), tie ribbons around school yard trees (all), place ribbons on school lockers (all), and possibly hang posters/bulletin boards.

-          Council approved the posters Betsy created for RRW and suggested to make 2-3 more designs prior to next meeting.

-          Shauna got permission for FAYC to sponsor RRW at the FHS

  

  1. Other Business
    1. City Council: Youth Council will meet with City Council in November or December for a quarterly update (RRW, Dance, other items)
    2. Councilmember Sanden suggested we work on recruitment. He will put together an outline sheet on the highlights of youth council membership prior to the next meeting for review.
