Fairmont Area Youth Council

Minutes from February 21, 2005 Meeting

 

  1. The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers

 

  1. Kelsey, Jon, Justa, Kendra, Ashlee & Ashlee’s friend Brittany – present

Kimbra & Tom – absent

 

  1. Minutes from February 7st meeting were passed

 

  1. Microphones were used so all council members could be heard. Kendra stated that all council members are to take on more responsibilities with the youth council. Also, if a member is unable to attend a service project – they are not to make a motion to approve it.

 

  1. Service Projects

- March Service Project – Humane Society

            - March 5th from 12-2 p.m.

- The Humane Society has us marked down on their calendar to help that day. Everyone’s help is needed and expected.

            - KBD

                        - The council will start planning for this activity at our next meeting.

 

  1. Membership/Community Awareness

- Kelsey & Justa spoke at Club Med and updated the council

- Sentinel Article – Kendra is going to write the article for the Sentinel. The council will view it at the next meeting.

 

  1. Youth Activity – Friday, March 18 8:00 p.m. – Midnight @ Knights of Columbus(?) – Admission $3

- Justa is still checking on the facility rental, rental rate, etc. She will report at the next meeting

- DJ – Council voted on having Kendra contact Kern Brothers Entertainment to be the DJ for that evening.

- Chaperones – Each council member is to speak with their chaperones and see if they are available to help on March 18. Councilors will report who is able to help at the next meeting.

Jon has lined up Officer Bleese to be our police chaperone for that evening.

- Advertising

- Justa and Kelsey will be making posters. They will e-mail them to Betsy to print off and make copies. These will be completed before next meeting and each council member will receive a packet of posters to hand out and tape up at the school.

            - Betsy will contact the radio stations and provide information to the Fairmont Sentinel.

            - Kimbra will see that flyers are stuck to the pizza boxes at Pizza Hut and the pizza places in Fmt.

            - Ashlee is making the Thank You sign to our donors.

 

  1. Other Business

- Justa updated the Youth Council on the City Council meeting she attended on Feb. 14. She report that people presented information on a Community Center study, employee recognitions, gambling licenses.

- Reminder that Jon and Kimbra are to attend the City Council meeting on Feb 28 @ 5:30 p.m. Kendra stated that it is essential that all councilors attend the City Council meeting. Very important for youth to have an input with the happenings in the community and how no attendance at the meetings is frowned upon.

- Home Town Focus – Jon will be contacting them to see available dates for the FAYC to have an interview.

            Jon will report on this at the next meeting

            - Justa will be writing a Thank you to Thrivent for their supplemental funding with our Pizza fundraiser.

 

  1. Next Meeting – March 7 @ 7:00 p.m. – same place.

 March 28 @ 7:30 p.m.

The council may meet at other times to gear up for the Dance and KBD
