Fairmont Area Youth Council

Minutes from September 20, 2004 Meeting

1.       The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

 

2.     Excused Absence: Kimbra

 

3.     City Council/Boards/Commissions – Watch for an upcoming mailing regarding one of the city organizations you chose to sit on.

 

4.     Service Projects – The council approved the following service projects:

Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army in November/December, making tray favors and decorations for the Lakeview Methodist Retirement Home, putting on a puppet play for the children of Stepping Stones, and stuffing folders for the Early Childhood Initiative. The council is also considering a service project for the Fairmont Medical Center. More information will be announced in mid/late October.

 

5.     Goals for the 2004-2005 year

* Survey – The council would like to put out a survey as to why kids are on the organizations they are on and also to see what some of the issues youth face in the community. Each council member is to bring 5 questions they would like to ask on the survey to the next FAYC meeting.

*Activity – The council would like to sponsor another youth activity.

*Service Projects – FAYC would like to complete several service projects for the community (See list above)

*Memberships – The council would like to gain additional members. They feel that the survey might provide some light on what attracts youth to groups/organizations.

 

6.    Other Business –

Open for all - The council would like to open up membership to all schools in Martin County and to youth in grades 7th – 12, versus our 8th – 12th membership.  This has been approved. The council members would like to go to the other schools and present information on the FAYC. Betsy & Kendra will report on this at the next meeting.

City Council Updates – The FAYC would like to update the city council on a quarterly basis. They are planning on updating the council before December 31, 2004

 

7.      Next Meeting – The next meeting will be on October 4th @ 7:00 p.m.
