Fairmont Public Utilities Electric Department
The Fairmont Power Plant has generation capacity of 34,500 kW. Electric power is purchased from Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA). The total service territory is approximately 48 square miles and is served by 3 substations with capacity of 55 mW. The customer base consists of 4,851 residential, 846 commercial, 17 industrial and 221 rural. Total sales for 1996 was 142,686,228 kWh with a system peak of 28,961 kW.
