Fairmont Area Youth Council Goals
Provide an educational and civic opportunity.
Many overlook or are misunderstood when it comes to government. The Fairmont Area Youth Council is interested in helping the youth become knowledgeable about local government and issues that concern the community.
Provide leadership opportunities for young people.
FAYC members will elect officers to represent the council and the youth in the community. Elected officials along with other sub-committees will be in charge of implementing and organizing events.
Open lines of communication between city officials and the youth.
The Youth Council wants the community to feel involved and know that their issues are important. FAYC will act as a liaison between the youth in the community and the local officials. They will promote and share ideas or concerns that the youth may have.
Provide social events that are safe and fun for the community.
With more social activities available to the youth, this will create more community involvement, which in turn lessens other unnecessary activity.
Create a place for the youth to bond.
Finding an ideal place for the youth to socialize, relax, and enjoy their adolescent years in Fairmont. The Youth Council will strive to complete this task of developing a community center.
Strategies To Obtain These Goals:
Educational and Civic Opportunity:
Being a part of the Youth Council gives members a look at the structure and procedures of local government. Through guest speakers, taking part in City Council meetings and practicing parliamentary procedures in youth meetings you will gain an understanding of how civic actions affect our community.
Leadership Opportunities:
The elected representatives and members will provide their own forum. The City Council may refer issues to the Youth Council. The Youth Council may also present issues that interest the youth to the city council. This will allow the opportunity to voice the issues that deem important.
Open Lines Of Communication:
Working closely together, the two councils will form an understanding for one another. Accessing meetings on local television, creating a website, and fundraising will bring awareness of the council to the outside community.
Social Events:
The Youth Council will build a strong organization by developing community awareness and participation. The Council will fundraise and collect local donations to host their events. Sub committees will make sure that ideas and tasks are being followed through in order to make the activity take place.
A Place For The Youth To Bond:
By creating a strong organization, the council will develop the skills to communicate their ideas of a community center. The Youth Council will develop ideas for a community center through fundraising, and writing grants to turn the idea into reality.
