Fairmont Area Youth Council
The Fairmont Area Youth Council was launched in 2000, in collaboration with The Blandin Foundation. Blandin helps rural communities work on identifying and developing economic assets, aligning around those assets, and mobilizing broad-based collaborative efforts to develop and take advantage of those assets.
Approximately 30% of Fairmont's population is under age 19, according to the US Census 2000. Of that percent, 1,300 people are middle school or high school age. The main objective for FAYC is to promote civic and community involvement among the youth. The Youth Council will provide the City Council with a youth perspective on diverse issues while learning the valuable skills in becoming a community leader.
